Batter who faces volume, stabilizes innings, and accrues points via balls faced and boundaries. Lower variance; captaincy depends on pace of scoring.

Batter used late in innings to accelerate. Fewer balls but high strike-rate upside; fantasy outcomes are volatile and context-dependent (wickets in hand).

Contributes in batting and bowling, creating dual scoring paths and smoothing variance across roles. Often strong captain candidates when usage is secure.
Bowler assigned wicket-taking phases—new ball or final overs. High upside via wickets; economy can be volatile, especially at the death.

Opening overs with fielding restrictions. Boosts boundary rate for openers; also increases wicket chances for swing/seam bowlers.
Final overs of an innings where scoring (and wickets) accelerate. Finisher batters and death bowlers experience extreme variance.
Runs conceded per over. Many scoring systems award bonuses/penalties based on ER bands, especially for bowlers completing full quotas.
Batting speed: runs per 100 balls. Some systems add SR bonuses for thresholds and penalize very low SRs.
Average outcome across many trials. In fantasy context, a way to compare roles and contexts (e.g., opener on flat track vs. finisher in death overs).
Selecting players whose outcomes move together (e.g., two top-order batters in a projected high total). Useful in large fields to target ceiling outcomes.
Building against popular assumptions to gain relative advantage if the field is wrong. More relevant to large-field thinking—use sparingly in small fields.
Extreme short-term performance tends to move back toward a player’s baseline over time. Avoid overreacting to tiny samples.
